WHAT IS A MULTI ROLE REBREATHER?
Most closed circuit rebreathers are optimised for a single discipline. A recreational CCR is built around dive-shop logistics; a dedicated military CCR is built around covertness and little else. A Multi Role Rebreather — an MRR — is designed to cover several of those roles from one platform, so a unit does not need a different machine, a different spares chain and a different training pipeline for each task.
That is the brief the SHARK CCR was built to. The same unit supports covert military diving, technical and expedition diving to 100 metres, and underwater engineering work — without swapping platforms between roles. In practice that means the design has to hold three things at once that are usually traded against each other: a very low bubble signature, long endurance, and enough redundancy that a single failure does not end the dive.
Why sovereign capability matters
A rebreather is a life-support system, and its value to a unit is measured over years of service, not at the point of sale. The SHARK is designed, built, maintained and supported in the United Kingdom, with spares held domestically and cleared personnel throughout. There is no foreign dependency in the supply chain or the training pipeline — which matters when availability, not just capability, is the requirement.

THREE THINGS THAT MAKE IT MILITARY
Everything else on a rebreather is negotiable. These three are not.

Hybrid oxygen delivery
Hybrid delivery keeps oxygen addition smooth and predictable, which is what holds the bubble signature under 0.1 litres per minute. On a covert approach that is the difference between a diver who is detectable from the surface and one who is not.
Redundant
Fully redundant electronics
Two independent electronics paths, so a single failure degrades the unit rather than ending the dive. For a long-duration approach with no easy abort, graceful degradation is a hard requirement rather than a feature.
Protected
Protected counter-lungs
Counter-lungs are the most vulnerable part of a rebreather and the least forgiving when damaged. Shielding them makes the unit survivable through boat work, surf entry, obstacle crossings and the general abuse of operational use.

SUPPORT
A rebreather is only a capability if the people using it are current on it and the unit stays serviceable. We deliver both ourselves rather than subcontracting them.
CCR conversion and operator training is delivered by our own instructors, at a discount when bought alongside a unit. Annual servicing, cell replacement and spares are handled in the UK. Trial dives on the SHARK can be arranged before any commitment.
Conversion training
Open-circuit and cross-platform CCR divers converted onto the SHARK by instructors who dive it operationally.
Unit packages
Whole-team training built around the unit's tasking, delivered to JSP 804 Defence Diving Standards.
Maintenance & spares
